Hello, art enthusiasts!

The Dialogues with Art community brings to you its next ONLINE MEET-UP for the month of May! This session, hosted by the extremely talented artist, Savita Iyer (on Instagram @urbankala_artofgifting), will be about exploring the Indian traditional art form Madhubani.

What is it Madhubani?  
Madhubani is a style of Indian painting practised in the Mithila region of Bihar and Nepal. The art form is characterised by complex geometrical patterns, usually depicting scenes from festivals and religious rituals. Today, in the villages where Madhubani is practised, this art form is used as an opportunity to create awareness on social issues and to empower women. 

What will this meet-up be about?
This event will give you an introduction to Madhubani - its origin, history, themes, styles, and present-day applications. Please note that this is not a full-fledged art workshop. This meet-up gives artists an opportunity to come together, explore a new art form, and receive feedback on their works.

The session will include the following:
- An introduction round and a short ice-breaking activity
- Introduction of the topic Madhubani
- Learn simple motifs and patterns of the art form
- Learn to draw characters and add detail to your art piece
- Create a beginner-level Madhubani art piece along with the host

Materials required:
- Sheets of paper - A4 size
- Pencil and eraser
- Acrylic colors
- 0, 2 number round brushes
- Rounder or compass

Most importantly, bring your creative spirit!
