Exploring SelfSelf Help

March 29, 2020, 3 p.m.
Dialogues, 57, 15th Cross Rd, JP Nagar Phase 6

‘Exploring Self' is an Expressive Arts Based Therapy Workshop module created by Ms. Shatarupa to help people understand themselves in a safe space with the use of music, art and movement. The present workshop has already been conducted in various spaces ranging from schools, to corporates, and groups of individuals as well. This workshop has assisted people in building insights, creating a space for reflecting on the self, and breaking unhealthy coping mechanisms to which we all fall prey from time to time.

Participants also go home with multiple techniques which help them deal with stress, anxiety, and self doubt in everyday situations using the artistic medium. This session will hold a small number of people together for three hours and the activities herein are designed in a way that lets you explore your mind, your body, your emotional states, and the patterns that bind them. Anyone who is interested in knowing themselves better can join. You can also use the session for catharsis or simply expressing what you've been going through in a calm and controlled environment. This will be a non-judgemental space where one can do, say, feel, think as they wish. We will work with group cohesion, collective consciousness while focusing on the individual lens as well. The module has been created based on scientific research done in the field of Psychology and Arts Based Therapy.

What is Expressive Arts Based Therapy? Expressive Arts Based Therapy is founded on the philosophy that the mind and body work together. They aren’t separate entities, but function in with each other. Our body narrates what our mind feels. Traditional Psychotherapy has observed the set and setting of a couch and speaking while lying down. In Expressive Arts Based therapy, there are multiple dimensions added to learn and unlearn ourselves. Instead of using just English, Hindi or Kannada - we will use our bodies, colours, music etc to express ourselves.

“Art can permeate the very deepest part of us, where no words exist.” - Eileen Miller

No prior experience in art is required for the session. Just some eagerness and curiosity to explore, be creative and expressive. Kindly wear comfortable clothes. Art Materials will be provided.
