Dialogues with Books - PoetryMeetup

Oct. 13, 2019, 4 p.m.
Dialogues, 41, 4th Block, Koramangala, Bangalore

Hello, everyone!

For several centuries now, poetry has probably been one of the most natural means of expression known to humanity. It results from a rawness that is innate to human nature; no wonder it stirs passions! Naoshi Koriyama seems to have the perfect recipe for a loaf of poetry: "you mix the dough of experience / with the yeast of inspiration / and knead it well with love / and pound it with all your might / and then leave it until it puffs out big / with its own inner force / and then knead it again / and shape it into a round form / and bake it in the oven of your heart". The last step of this recipe is probably what lets a poem simply be instead of having to mean something every time (hat tip: Archibald MacLeash).

So what does Poetry mean to us? What poems move us? Which poets do not let us sleep peacefully at night? To talk about this (and more!) and to read our favourite poems out loud, let us come together for the next Dialogues with Books session on Sunday, October 13, 2019.

While we respect the spoken word (including song lyrics, rap, and other such genres) and new age poetry prevalent on social media, for the purposes of this session we will focus on written and published poetry. As a general rule, let us discuss poetry that:
* can be found in bona fide volumes and collections, OR
* is written by poets who have bona fide volumes and collections published on their work

This focus will help us structure our discussions better. If you're not sure whether a certain poem is apt for discussing at the session, just bring it along and we will figure it out! :)

So here goes:
What: Dialogues with Books
Where: Dialogues Cafe, Koramangala, Bangalore
When: Sunday, October 13, 2019

See you all there!
